FitFeat is MOVING Tonight! And a GIVEAWAY!

16 10 2009

Hi everyone!  The FitFeat blog is officially moving to self-hosted… wahooo!  Let me just say that I am SO ready for a bottle glass of wine.  I’ve been sitting at this PC for too long the last few days.  Things on the new site aren’t EXACT (yet) to the appearance of this one, but I’m pretty close.  🙂

I’ve exported everything prior to this post and imported it all up to the new blog location.  So I’ll be “offline” for a day or so until the changes that have been made to the nameservers propogate.   The “orders” have been made – now it’s just a matter of waiting for everything to happen on the other end.

Once everything has switched over you can find me at:

http://fitfeat.com/blog

BLOGROLLS:  If you have me in your blogroll (thank you!) please update with the new link.

EMAIL SUBCRIPTIONS: If you signed up for the email subscription service, I should be able to change that manually on my end.

RSS FEEDS:  if you had subscribed via the RSS feed, you will need to re-subscribe from the new site when it’s up.  I’d miss you if you don’t resubscribe 🙂

READERS (i.e. Google Reader) and BOOKMARKS:  Again, you’ll need to update the link to the new location.

My apologies for the inconvenience!

My FitFeat email will also be in limbo until the nameservers switch over, so if you email me at shari@fitfeat.com and I don’t email you back quickly, chances are it’s hung up in the server change.

[Those of you familiar w/ the WordPress redirect:  I had hoped to do a redirect via WordPress, but because I purchased the domain name within the past 60 days, I was unable to transfer management of the domain name to them for the upgrade.  😦 Hence all the changing.]

As incentive (and THANKS) to keep you coming to FitFeat after the move, I’ll be hosting a giveaway from the new site next week!  Be sure to come by for the details!

***

Have a GREAT Friday night and an even better Saturday!  I’m so thankful to have each and every one of you reading the blog!

Now, onto that glass of wine…  🙂

Fruit-Filled Saturday

4 10 2009

Well hello blog buds!  Happy Sunday!  Ours started out sans-sun but it seems to have reappeared now.  That’s what I LOVE about living in Colorado.  We have a bazillion days of sunshine, even when it’s chilly out.  (Are you sick of me loving on my state yet?  I’m sorry, I can’t help it!  Truly the Colorado  tourism board should be sending me checks!)

First thing Saturday morning directly following coffee, we took the dogs out for a 4-mile WOG (that would be walking/jogging for any new readers, because my dogs cannot keep from stopping to smell every single thing there is to smell along the way.  It’s a very herky-jerky form of running, for sure!)

I’m thinking that Riley being all tired on the 2.5 mile wog earlier this week was all an act because she treated this 4-miler like it was nothing!  I’m on to her now…  😉

So Saturday turned out to be a B-A-N-A-N-A-S kind of day so it was fitting that it started out with this for breakfast:

img 071

MSP made me French Ezekial Toast!  Isn’t that sweet (pun intended)?  I topped it with a smear of raw almond butter, half of a banana, and some Michigan pure maple syrup that I brought back for him from my trip.  It was a DEE-LISH-USH breakfast.

We rushed around after that because we had to be out the door at 10:00 AM to get our day of BIZ-EEE-NESS started and didn’t get a chance to stop for a snack or lunch.  The french toast sure did the trick because normally if I’d had to wait from 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM before eating, I’d be about ready to start gnawing on my own fingers.  But I made it until we got home, and then I made a plate of leftover Garbanzo!  I used some of the leftover pita, smeared it with hummus, added a slice of heirloom tomato and a skinny slice of raw goat cheese.  Then I cut the leftover falafel in half and topped it with the tahini sauce, with the rice on the side.  It was mmm-mmm-good.  Now if only we could tell Garbanzo to stop OVER-COOKING their falafel, we’d be golden.  I don’t think falafel are meant to be charbroiled.  Correct me if I’m wrong, because I’m no falafel expert.  🙂  Next time we’re craving some, I think we’ll make our homemade version that we bake instead.

img 072

Later in the afternoon, I was craving something sweet so I decided on some fruit.  In my quest for “new-to-me” produce this week, I’d picked up a PLUOT.  I’ve never had one before.

img 074

Is it the prettiest red when it’s cut open or what?

img 075

I’ll definitely be buying pluots again.  (I’m guessing pluot is supposed to be a mix of plum and apricot??)

It didn’t fill me up, so I went back for even MORE fruit, this time my beloved MANGO.  I just can’t bring myself to mask this delicious fruit in any form of smoothie.  I am so in love with mangoes.

img 077

More errand running later and it was getting pretty chilly, so a tall soy chai latte seemed in order (with a petite vanilla scone to keep the latte company – love that they make bite-sized scones!)

img 079

At 7:45, we were on our way out the door to a huge birthday bash for a good friend, and I must have been in a SMIRKY mood… not sure what this face was for!

img 081

We didn’t eat a dinner Saturday night – it was just an “off-schedule” day all around.  At the party I had a glass of white wine and a handful of tortilla chips.  But being that today is FOOTBALL SUNDAY, I have a feeling I’ll make up for any lost calories.  😉  Anyone up for joining me in some football-watching exercise?  Drop me a comment and let me know if I have any takers!!  Today would normally be my ‘rest day’ but if I have some peeps willing to do this with me, it’d be much more fun knowing that somewhere out there you might be doing some pushups or squats during the commercials too!

I have a couple of FitFeatures I want to blog about but I’m going to save it for the weekdays, as my blog stats tell me that Sundays are pretty slow and I don’t want you to miss them!  In the meantime, if you have any specific topics you’d like to hear about, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

Have a SUPERB SUNDAY

That’s a Wrap (Rut)!

3 10 2009

Happy Saturday FitFeat friends!!

I was just downloading the pics of yesterday’s food so I could start this post and yesterday morning seems like SUCH a long time agoDo you ever have days like that?  The ones that feel like 3 days happened in a 24-hr period?

My apologies for the late post today – we’ve had an insanely busy day from the minute we got up this morning and this is the first I’ve even seen my PC!

I hope you all had a fab Friday!  Mine was very nice – we decided to sleep in an extra hour instead of getting up for weight training.  We got to bed later than usual due to MSP’s softball game, so it felt good to make up the hour in the morning.  I did still do my leg workout, just later in the morning and unfortunately without my training partner.  🙂

But first I needed some pre-workout fuel!  Some java and oatmeal with my favorite add-ins (raisins, almond milk, cinnamon, agave nectar and some crumbled Coconut Cream Pie Larabar).  I kid you not, this is heaven in a bowl!

img 060

About an hour afterward it was time for some Leg & Shoulder Weight Training:

  • TM Warmup 5 minutes
  • Smith-Machine Squats 4 working sets of 15, 15, 12, 12 reps
  • Upright Rows 4 working sets of 15, 15, 12, 12 reps
  • Calf Raises 3 working sets of 30 reps each
  • Explosive Lunges 3 sets of 20 reps
  • Overhead Rear Delts w/ Tubing (“stick-em-ups”) 3 sets of 15 resp
  • Dance Break 🙂  during Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love”  (for some songs you just have to drop the dumbbells and get your boogie on)
  • Snow Angels w/ ValSlides 3 sets of 20
  • All-Angle Shoulders (crazy 8s) 3 sets of what adds up to 40 reps per shoulder, 8 reps for each angle)

It was a great workout – I was good and beat afterward.  And definitely ready for my post-workout green smoothie!  Water, spinach, red chard, kale, 1 pear, 1 banana, 1 kiwi, sprouts, 1/2 a cucumber.  I meant to add rice protein powder and spaced it.

img 059

At lunch I continued in my WRAP RUT!  But they’re SO good that I’ve just been wanting one every day!  Whole wheat tortilla, smeared with Tofutti, sprinkled with pepitas & sesame seeds, then topped with red chard, sprouts, avocado and slices of heirloom tomatoes.  OH – SO – TASTY!!

img 062

I had a couple of the Immaculate Cookie Co cookies for dessert.  🙂

To celebrate it being Friday and to celebrate the opening of a new Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill much much closer to our house, we went to pick up a hummus & falafel bowl.  I ate half of my bowl shown here, stuffed into a pita and saved the rest for Saturday lunch.

img 068

And an ‘at home Happy Hour’, with a glass of organic Reisling

img 066

A few hours later, because the hungry bug is still biting this week, a small bowl of Mom’s Best Naturals cereal topped with unsweetened almond milk.  I knew this would fill up my tank for the mileage I’d be doing in the morning.

img 069

I can’t believe it’s already 3:15 – this day has absolutely flown by.  We have a few more errands to run and a birthday shindig to attend this evening.  I’m gonna go grab a book and park myself on the couch for 30 minutes to slow myself down for a while.

What’s your favorite way to unwind when you need to bring the RPM’s down a few notches?  I’d like to say that mine is yoga or meditation, but it’s not.  I have a really tough time quieting my mind for meditation.  So my favorite is a bubble bath WITH a book.  But I’ll also take a book without the bath if need be.

Enjoy your Saturday evening and I’ll see ya next time!

Foxy Running in the Wilderness (or Rewind, Part Two)

23 09 2009

Hi blog friends!

Well no luck on the internet connection again last night once we arrived at the next state park.  So I’m back today feeling a bit behind but hoping to get caught back up.  Still no 3G so I’ll be uploading highlight photos rather than all of my food pics.  I’m starting to think there isn’t any 3G in the state of Michigan!

On to the Monday rewind:  we had an EARLY agenda and a busy day of sightseeing ahead.   It was absolutely pouring when we woke up and into the first half of the day.

Breakfast was Ezekial toast and a scoop of Vega whole food optimizer (since I knew I wouldn’t be making a smoothie that day) mixed with almond milk.

 1 Breakfast

Later, while on our boat ride to view the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore I had a Cashew Cookie Larabar.   I was really wishing for a steaming mug of cocoa instead.  It was very windy and damp but so insanely beautiful!  I just love the water:  the sound, the smell, the view!

This is the coast on the upper side of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, on Lake Superior for The Monday Postcard:

Pic3 161

Isn’t it pretty?

We learned about the Lake Superior whitefish caught in the bay there where the boat was docked.  So I asked the tour guide where I could try some of this local fare.  He recommended a great little place called “The Dogpatch”.   The menu only showed deep fried whitefish on their sandwich, so I asked if I could have it prepared some other way.  Broiled is what I went with.

3 lunch Munising Whitefish

I ate it all on half of the bun, open-faced style, then ate about 6 of the fries.

Next I got the day’s exercise pushing g-ma up and down a trail to go view Tahquamenon Falls.  We parked g-ma at the observation deck, then mom and I took the big staircase down to the bottom.  Between the stair climbing and pushing g-ma back UP the trail to the car, I got a fairly decent workout for the day.

It had been a damp, rainy and LONG day so we were definitely ready to get back to camp and have some dinner.  I had my lazy girl dinner by microwaving a can of Amy’s Organic Vegetable Barley Soup while my RV mates had egg burritos.

Before bed we watched a movie, so they had butter pecan ice cream and I ate a “Nana’s NOs” cookie (NO gluten, NO dairy, NO refined sugars) – I love those cookies!

Now for Tuesday’s rewind:

I bought myself a souvenir mug at a giftshop.  It holds a lotta java!  So this was the start to my Tuesday, just how I like it!

Mich 008

I went for a walk with my mom before breakfast and then out for a quick run on my own.  Combined total was probably not more than 3 or 4 miles.  If you can believe it, even my Garmin GPS running watch wouldn’t catch a satellite where we were.  It just kept saying “Locating Satellites”…  When I was out by myself I came across this cute little guy getting his breakfast under a tree.  We crossed paths a couple of times during my outing.   He’s The Tuesday Postcard.

Mich 014

When I got back to the camper I had an apple and a scoop of Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer.   Later for lunch we were again on the side of the road at another rest area, so I made a big bowl of tuna fish with a ton of chopped celery, some chopped sweet pickles, a smidge of mayo and squeeze of mustard.

My afternoon “snack” was a few pieces the saltwater taffy that I bought it in Mackinaw City.  Brings back a lot of memories of going to Cedar Point as a kid.  We always had saltwater taffy there.  I still need to Google why Mackinac bridge is spelled differently than Mackinaw City.  Maybe someday when I’m back in 3G country…  oh high speed internet, how I miss you so.

Mich 080

Dinner was my best yet while RV-ing.  Italiano!!  With vino!!  Mom and g-ma were having ‘personal pizzas’ so I spread olive oil on my crust, and topped with red pepper flakes, sliced roma tomatoes, zucchini ribbons, sundried tomatoes, green olives, and green peppers.  After baking I added some nutritional yeast.  It was FANTASTIC!!  I had a side salad (that was bigger than my pizza) and a small glass of the local cherry reisling.  The whole meal was great.

Mich 094

As it turns out that was probably our last night on the road (one day early.)  We are on the return trip now, so should be back to mom’s casa tonight.  I think they got tired of me cussing at my slow internet connection and decided to drive faster.  😉

Today’s question: Do you have a special food that takes you back to a good memory the way saltwater taffy does for me?

Thanks again everyone for being patient with my lags between posts!  I don’t know what the rest of my vacation will bring as far as internet goes, since I’ll probably be at my brother’s house until Sunday night or Monday morning.  His town is further out in the boonies than my mom’s is, so I’m crossing my fingers!  😉  But I’ll have lots of counter space, restroom space, and personal space so no complaints from me!

Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!

A Game of “Where’s Shari?”

22 09 2009

Hey friends!

I’ve been attempting to put a full post out here to catch you all up on the last few days, but my internet connection keeps coming in and out so I can’t upload any photos just yet.   I lost cell service shortly after Sunday’s post when we entered no man’s land!!   I have a BIG update to upload as soon as I am back in an area with a 3G connection.  🙂

Hope you are all doing well and having a great Tuesday!  I’m eating a delicious and sticky piece of salt water taffy that I just purchased in the last town I was in.  (Well, maybe a few more than one piece.)

Any guesses where I bought the taffy? Drop me a comment!

Back soon with the mega-post!

And We’re Off…

18 09 2009

Hey there friends!

Happy Friday!  Are you ready for the weekend?

Well, the plane trip went perfectly.  I sat next to a really nice girl who is also a runner so we chatted a bit.  I read a little of “The Lost Symbol” (good so far!) but had tired eyes, so ended up mostly just watching the little TV on the seat in front of me.  Landed, got to the grocery store to pick up my produce for the trip and we are officially on the road in what my friend Pat calls the “Rockstar Bus”. I am a sleepy girl today – didn’t get to bed until well after 11:00, slept off and on, and got up at 4:20 here which is 2:20 on my body’s clock. (Good thing I won’t be doing any of the RV driving!) I definitely see a nap in my future!  🙂

Upon arriving at my mom’s house, I found out that I do NOT have cell phone service here!  AAACCCKK!  OK, I’m already suffering iPhone withdrawal because I am typically on my iPhone internet all the live long day! And my cell phone access is my internet connection.  I noticed that I have a weak cell signal now that we are on the road so I am taking my chance at getting a post out there while I have the opportunity!  Uploading photos is a S-L-O-W process with this connection 🙂

So… if you don’t see a post from me for a few days at a time, don’t think I’m bailing on you!  It will just mean that I can’t get out to the site to post anything!

Here’s how Thursday went down…

Weight Training (Back/Tris/Abs):

  • TM warmup plus arm swings/shoulder circles
  • DB Rows 4 working sets of 12, 10, 7, 12 reps
  • Parallel Grip Lat Pulldowns 4 working sets of 11, 9, 8, 12 reps
  • Tricep Pushdowns 4 working sets of 12, 8, 11, 9 reps
  • Weighted Ball Crunch 2 sets of 15, 20 reps
  • V-Crunch 2 sets of 18, 20

Afterward I took the dogs out (together even) for a brief 20 min walk since I had to get back and finish the last of the packing to head out to the airport.

Thursday’s coffee mug was appropriately letting me know that “My Journey Begins Today” 🙂

Pic3 024

I realized that I haven’t really mentioned what I put IN my coffee. I use a little Coffeemate liquid fat-free hazelnut, with ½ a packet of stevia. While I know that the Coffeemate is not the healthiest choice, I haven’t found anything I like better yet for my coffee. I did purchase some MimicCreme via Amazon so I’ll be trying that out when I get back and will let you know how it goes.  I’m not really a fan of the Silk soy creamer – I end up needing to use twice as much of that as the Coffeemate.

Breakfast was Genesis toast with almond butter and raw honey, and a side of Almond Milk.Pic3 026

Mid-morning was my blended green goodness ‘to go’ and I had JUST enough remaining fruit! 1 clementine, ½ banana, ½ pear, fist o’ spinach, romaine leaves, ½ cucumber.

Pic3 027

Next, I packed up some food to take with me to the airport.

Pic3 028

Pic3 029

While waiting at the gate I had ¾ of the sandwich (Genesis bread, Tofutti faux cream cheese, spinach & basil leaves, yellow tomato slices, sea salt & pepper). On the plane I ate my little side salad of spinach, pepitas, zucchini ribbons, yellow tomato, olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. I had also packed some leftover salmon to put on the salad, but I just couldn’t bring myself to stink up the whole plane by opening the baggie. I didn’t want to be THAT person! 😉

Food for the rest of the evening was not much and pretty random. I had a few of my “Mary’s Gone Crackers” on the way to the grocery store, then when I got to the house I had ½ of a leftover Larabar, a few pepitas (pumpkin seed kernels) and a serving of Amazing Grass Wheatgrass.

Question for today: Which do you find more challenging when you travel: healthful eating or getting your exercise? Drop me a comment! I’m thinking that for me this time it might be the exercise. I imagined I’d run a lot to see the sights, but I’m also nervous to run in strange places all by myself. We’ll see how it goes!

OK, I’m going to hit the ‘Publish” button while I still have a connection!  Have a GREAT weekend everyone! Hopefully I’ll ‘see’ ya again tomorrow!
